3rd ANNUAL LARRY ITLIONG DAY PARADE & FESTIVAL OCTOBER 28, 2017

The City of Los Angeles, Pilipino Workers Center, Larry Itliong Day Committee, and Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust proudly present: The 3rd ANNUAL LARRY ITLIONG DAY PARADE & FESTIVAL, which will be held in Historic Filipinotown on Saturday, OCTOBER 28, 2018. The parade, featuring giant puppets (“higantes”), begins at 9am in front of Unidad Park, 1648 Beverly Blvd. 90026, and will culminate at the festival in front of St. Columban Catholic Church, 125 Loma Dr. 90026. The event will offer cultural performances, art exhibits, a re-enactment of the Great Delano Grape Strike and The Salubong or El Encuentro- the merger of Filipino American farmworkers with Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta and the fellow Mexican American farmworkers on September 16, 1965 — which led to one of the greatest labor movements in America, the formation of the United Farm Workers union. This year`s theme: Weaving our Communities, highlights the common cultural and historic bonds that unite and strengthen Filipino and Latino communities in the neighborhood. We are encouraging the public to bring photographs of their dearly departed and honor their ancestors in our community altar which integrates the Mexican tradition of Dia De Los Muertos and Filipino culture and traditions. There will also be children’s activities, free Jeepney rides and a tour of Historic Filipinotown, a special guest keynote speaker, and of course, great food.

The festival will also include civic engagement activities: voter registration and information about workers issues, immigrant “know your rights”, and human trafficking.
